Free from Smoke

Hmm, the air around me smells good and the food tastes even better, so much better that I have put on extra 10 kilos. I even save some money at end of the month and I feel more awake and more energetic now compared to 2 months ago, how is all this possible? Thinking which Magic Pill I swallowed to bring about so many changes? Nope it was no magic pill but I have given up on the nasty habit of smoking of the last 15 years. I have been smoke free for the last 2 months, ok ok I know it's still early and I could always have a relapse and go back to smoking. Actually I have been trying for the last 8 long months to quit. It was so difficult and the best part is most of my friends are smokers.

It's really hard when my friends are smoking and I looking and smelling their second hand smoke and some of them will even hand me their cigarette with a cheeky smile, guess they can't bear to miss out on their regular smoking kaki. But I have since learnt to say NO to their advances and they too have since excepted that I am a non-smoker and not part the smoking group anymore as I tend to avoid smokers gatherings but I sure will miss the talk cock session when smokers gather. And oh yes the I miss the pleasure of a smoke after every meal. Its every smokers nightmare to run out of cigarettes after a meal. I even know of some friends will readily choose a box of cigarette over a meal. Now that is how much smokers have come to depend on cigarettes to go about their daily lives, most smokers will say they need to lit up before they shit, no joke. I was astonished to be told by a doctor in a anti-smoke clinic that some smokers who had their fingers amputated due to smoking carry on smoking using their feet and when the feet are eventually amputated, they have the cheek to ask the doctor or nurse to hold the cigarette for them. That's how bad the situation is for hardcore smokers.

What made me quit? Lots of reasons but the primary I have to say was health, I started having a blocked feeling in my chest after I smoke, so I guess I freaked out. I didn't really go to a doctor to check what the problem was but since I have quit smoking, the blocked feeling has gone away. But I must admit that to quit smoking is really hard and alot of effort has to be made. In my case, my wife was very understanding and gave me lots of encouragement even after I went back to smoking in the initial stages.

The advice I can give is Keep trying and trying and the most important is you must mentally prepare yourself that you want to quit. Get help and listen to doctors on what cigarette smoke actually does to your body.

I really hope that I will remain a non-smoker
