More Links

I remember that I used to go to the lor K mosque at Telok Kurau duing the month of ramadan in 2002 to listen to one Imam from Tobabco & Trinidad. I remember after listening to lectures, I was very curious and at the same time unsure of what he was talking about. What struck me most was his impeccable command of english and mastery in the choise of words. He is none other than Islamic Scholar Sheik Imran Hosein.

The unforgettable lecture he delivered was on Riba (interest) and how the mordern monetry system is not combatible with Islam because the value of the money was not inherent in paper notes but instead the value was guranteed by the central bank unlike gold or silver nuggets where the value is inherent.

After listening to that lecture, I was thinking to myself this Imam must be joking, I can't be carrying gold niggets around can I? I have become quite acustomed to paperless tranactions such as credit cards and internet banking.

He had written a couple of books and I bought the Book entitled Jerusalem but have not read it. (no time) Today one of my friend send me an email about an Isamic website based in Singapore that features articles in written, oral and video formats. The name of the website was CeramahIslam.com and decided to pay CeramahIslam a visit and what a pleasant surprise, the lectures given by Sheik Imran Hosein when he was in singapore was online.

I Googled his name and found out his own website at imranhosein.org. Both a pretty good websites with a wealth of information about Islam with a tinge of politics added to it.

Looting

Whenever I see the Devastation on New Orleans and surrounding states caused by Hurricane Katrina and subsequently the population left to fend for themselves for days after the eye of the storm has passed and when some of the population of New Orleans started to loot from the stores and George Bush issued a stern warning that looters will be shot by law enforcement, I looked backed in irony at his defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld giving the following comment:

"Freedom's untidy, and free people are free to make mistakes and commit crimes and do bad things,"

Rumsfeld commented on the looting that was rampant around Baghdad when Iraq was invaded in 2003. So it is alright for others to loot and rampage but it cannot be done on US soil, the true color of their democracy is exposed. If US can neglect it's own citizens, one wonder's about the situation in Iraqi under their occupation.
